Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms: What Are the Early Warning Signs?

The pancreas is a gland behind your stomach. It helps you digest food and controls blood sugar. The NHS says pancreatic cancer may not have any symptoms, or they might be hard to spot. Signs can include:

  • Jaundice: yellow skin or eyes, itchy skin, darker pee and paler poo.
  • Weight loss: losing weight without trying, or loss of appetite.
  • Pain: at the top of your tummy and back. It may feel worse when eating or lying down, and better when leaning forward.
  • Indigestion: feeling bloated or sick.

Pancreatic Cancer UK adds that symptoms may come and go at first. They can also change how often you pass stools. Some people have diarrhoea, constipation or pale, oily poo.

Many of these signs have other causes. Having them does not mean you have cancer. But the NHS advises you to see your GP if symptoms get worse or do not improve after two weeks. Pancreatic Cancer UK says to see a doctor or go to A&E straight away if you have jaundice.
