What Are The Warning Signs Of Prostate Cancer?
Dr Shashank says thatprostate cancer often grows slowly; and in the early stages, it may not cause any clear symptoms. “This is why regular check-ups are important, mainly for men above the age of 50,” he adds. He lists some warning signs for our better understanding:
- One common warning sign is difficulty passing urine. A person may feel the urge to urinate often, especially at night, or may have a weak or slow urine flow. Some men may feel pain or a burning sensation while urinating.
- Another sign may be the feeling that the bladder is not fully empty even after urinating.
- One warning sign that should not be ignored is blood in urine or semen .
- Some men may experience pain in the lower back, hips, or pelvic area, especially if the cancer has spread.
- Unexplained weight loss and constant fatigue can also occur in later stages.
- Erectile dysfunction or difficulty in maintaining an erection may also be associated with prostate problems. However, this can also happen due to other common conditions as well.
When To Seek Medical Help?
Dr Shashank notes thatit is important to remember that these aforementioned symptoms can also be caused by non-cancer conditions such as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or infections. “Having these signs does not necessarily mean cancer. However, if any of these symptoms are noticed, it is important and advisable to consult a doctor early. Early detection can help in better treatment and outcomes,” concludes the expert.
