We spoke to our nutritionist Ms. Shilpa Singh from Fatima Hospital, Lucknow to know some lesser-known benefits of consuming apples in your diet. She told that apples are extremely nutritious and contains nutrients that could aid many functions and boost our health.
1. Helps to support Weight Loss
Apples are rich in fiber content and also have a lot of water in them because of which it makes them a filling fruit. If you are looking to lose some weight and manage your appetite, then it is important that you put apples in your diet, which gives you a healthier option. Eating an apple can keep you filled for approximately 4 hours and it just 100 calories which is not bad for a fruit like that. Apple can significantly reduce your body mass index and weight related health risks.
2. Improves heart condition
More than often apples are not linked to heart health but it can actually have a positive impact on your blood cholesterol levels. The reason behind this is the soluble fiber that is present in the apples, which lowers blood pressure as well. Apples contain polyphenols that could control your BP problems and lower the risk of stroke as well.

3. Promotes gut health

Apples thus promotes the growth of good bacteria in the body and can protect you against some chronic diseases.

4. Lowers risk of diabetes
Diabetes is one of the most occurring diseases that is affecting a lot of people these days. Our nutritionist says that there have been a few studies that reveal that risk of diabetes could be minimized by 18%. Eating just one apple a day can also be healthy and can affect the antioxidant polyphenols, etc. Apples also have an anti-inflammatory effect that could reduce insulin resistance in diabetes. Phlorizin is rather believed to reduce sugar intake in the intestine and contribute towards overall health benefits.
5. Could help in fighting asthma
Antioxidant rich apples can protect your lungs and prevent them from damage or inflammation. Harmful molecules that known as free radicals can especially cause oxidative damage that could lead you to inflammatory issues. The skin of apples contains a lot of antioxidants, quercetin that helps to regular immune system and reduce inflammation. It could also be very effective against bronchial asthma. Allergic asthma could also be reduced by eating an apple each day.
