The role of hygiene in relationships exceeds our common understanding of its importance in healthy partnerships.  Hygiene is not just about physical cleanliness; it reflects self-respect, emotional awareness, and consideration for your partner’s comfort. People who practice proper hygiene create trust, which leads to better relationships and increased self-assurance. Simply put, how a man takes care of his body often affects how safe, respected, and valued his partner feels.

To understand this better, we spoke to Dr Pooja Pillai, Consultant – Internal Medicine, Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore, who explained that good hygiene is an essential part of maturity in relationships. “Good hygiene is not just about looking good; it is also about showing care, respect, and responsibility toward your partner,” she said. Read ahead to know everything she shared with us.

Hygiene Habits Men Ignored But Women Notice

Here are five essential hygiene practices which every man should practice  for the woman in his life:

1. Daily Bathing Is Non-Negotiable

Daily bath helps to remove sweat, dirt, and bacteria which accumulate on the body. This is especially important during hot and humid weather because body odour and skin infections tend to increase during this time. Dr Pillai advised using a mild soap and paying special attention to underarms, feet, and private parts. A clean body not only feels good but also makes physical closeness more comfortable and pleasant.

2. Maintain Proper Oral Hygiene

Bad breath can instantly create discomfort in a relationship, but it is also one of the easiest problems to fix. If you want your breath to smell fresh throughout,  opt for brushing your teeth twice daily, cleaning your tongue, and using a mouthwash. Dr Pillai suggested that regular dental check-ups are equally important to keep gums and teeth healthy. Fresh breath shows attentiveness and respect for your partner’s space.

3. Keep Facial and Body Hair Clean and Trimmed

Whether a man prefers a full beard or a clean shave, grooming is essential. Unkempt facial hair can trap dirt and bacteria, leading to skin issues and unpleasant smells. Trimming nose hair, ear hair, and excess body hair improves cleanliness and appearance. “A well-groomed look reflects self-care, which your partner naturally appreciates,” said Dr Pillai.

4. Wear Clean Clothes and Fresh Footwear

Repeated use of dirty clothes without washing them causes body odour, skin rashes, and fungal infections. Clean innerwear and socks are essential because these areas tend to develop sweat. Shoes require complete drying to prevent odour and fungal infections. Fresh clothes not only feel better on the skin but also signal effort and thoughtfulness in daily life.

5. Practice Hand and Nail Hygiene

Germs spread most easily through our hands. The practice of maintaining short and clean nails helps people maintain basic hygiene while preventing infections. The simple habit of washing hands before meals, after using the washroom and after returning home shows people who do so take their own and others’ health seriously. Clean hands become essential during physical intimacy because they establish trust between partners while providing protection to each other.

Bottomline

Good hygiene is a silent language of love; it shows care, maturity, and respect without saying a word. Expert suggests you always maintain good hygiene, not only for yourself but also for your partner.
