Have you had a moment when you said to yourself ‘Oh my god I just did that, wow that was amazing, I am amazing’. While you would have also had moments when you said to yourself ‘I can’t believe I just did that, I wish I didn’t I do that, I was so stupid.’ If you go back and review what was different about you in both those scenarios? The qualification, Skillset, talent, experience, knowledge was all the same but what was different? Your emotional state. As per Kartik Naidu, Transpersonal Therapist & Trainer, your performance largely depends on your emotional state at that time. Strong will and control over emotions can help in achieving peak performance. To understand the link between emotional health and performance, read this article.
Positive psychology for peak performance
Human beings are governed by their emotions, they’d like to think they are not but the truth couldn’t be furthest. When you feel energetic, confident and positive and believe in yourself enough you are bound to present your game in whatever you do in life. But at the same time you are uninspired challenged or not motivated enough you are certain to have a poor performance, there is no rocket science to it.
Emotional state and performance
Our emotional state determines what level of inputs we will give in to a particular task.
Now how to have an optimum level emotional state to produce an optimal level performance. Performance is often a highly misinterpreted word. When we want to understand how to perform better we at the same time are assuming that performance is something unique, as if there is anything that is not performance.
Our emotional state is a direct consequence of multiple favours like our environment, our health and sleep patterns, our thought processes. If we address all these things on a daily basis, producing top performance won't be an achievement it will be your second nature. For example, if you want to have beautiful flowers in your garden, you don’t think of flowers, you think soil, sun, water, and manure and beautiful flower is the end result.

Routine for Peak Performance
There is an optimal performance hack that we don’t understand. One of the very crucial factors that determine performance is routine. Yes, a routine is something that we often disregard as important but that’s highly needed. Imagine yourself waking up late and feeling lethargic all day. Then how would you perform well? This is why it is said- early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Our ancestors not only believed in this saying but also followed this religiously and this is why they lived a happy and healthy life.
Kartik Naidu says, start your day early depending on your routine. Try to wake up as early as possible. 5 am to 6 am is the best time to wake up. If you can before that, it great! You get a lot of time to plan your day and amp up your productivity. Also, since you are waking up early, you'll also go early to bed as your body would get tired at the end.
Apart from waking up early, you should also do breathing exercises. This helps in promoting emotional wellness that helps in improving performance.
- Sit in an open and green environment where you get fresh air.
- Inhale-hold-exhale for 15-20-25-30-35 seconds and then descend form 35-30-25-20-15 seconds.
- Do this exercise for 20 minutes.
Now, practice meditation. You can perform silent meditation or turn on some meditation music or practice zen meditation. There are different types of meditation to choose from as per your interest.
Make this an indispensable routine if you really wish to increase your productivity and performance.

Personalized Guided Visualisation
“Another interesting Mind Hack I often use in my sessions is personalised guided visualisation techniques. They are a very powerful way of excelling your results. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between real and unreal, it can re-create memories and interpret them as a present moment. I would also recommend professional coaching training with mind and performance coaches to excel and produce consistent results. Mind hacking presents opportunities to unfold limitless potential and we are all capable of it,” says Kartik.
What is Personalised Guided Imagery?
A lot of people who are concerned about them not achieving desired results come to therapists for solution. One of the common techniques that are put to use is guided imagery. This therapy helps people feel relaxed and pay attention to their physical and mental health problems. This visualisation therapy helps in injecting positive feelings through guided visualisation. This technique also strengthens the connection between the mind and body. When this connection is established, a person feels more lively and enthusiastic. This, in turn, boosts his/her morale and increases productivity rate followed by peak performance.

Other mind hacks for success
Apart from the above-mentioned pointers, there are some other mind hacking techniques that neuroscience swears by. Here is a list:
- Consume foods rich in omega-3s and healthy fats- These are found to increase dopamine in the body that upscales energy levels and makes you less lethargic.
- Exercise daily as it releases endorphin chemical that motivates the mind and recharges the body.
- Make precise affirmations about yourself and your goals. If you recall them, these will get imprinted in the form of new neural pathways.
- Say your aim out and loud every morning after waking up and the night before going to bed. This would guide your subconscious mind and help it focus on the aim.
- Rest properly- 6-8 hours of sleep daily is a must if you want your mind to function properly and focus on the aim. Sleep is very important. If you fail to sleep, get yourself a pillow spray.
- Keep yourself in a positive environment- don’t let negativity take over you as it would then affect your performance. Say surrounded by positive environment and positive people who motivate you to work hard and achieve your goals.
