This has particularly increased over metro cities but it is raising concern at this time where viral infections are spreading rapidly. 6 Demerits of Taking Steam Bath
1. It increases core temperature of the body
Steam bath actually increases temperature of the body to a level that might increase the risk of health problems. The temperature in the sauna can go upto almost a level which might no longer be comfortable and healthy for your body. It might cause terrible sweating more than your body can actually result to muscle weakness and muscle soreness.
2. Increases risk of vascular problems
The temperature in the steam room can actually increase your heart rate within10 minutes and hence it could be very problematic. This could increase the chances of vascular implications and chances of blood flow in the skin. The increased blood flow actually causes problems in the skin as well and it is quite possible that it may lead you to coronary artery disease.
The increased heart rate that happens because of vascular disease helps the body to burn more calories and affects their blood pressure as well. If the blood pressure increases to dangerous levels then it may also cause heart problems and cardiovascular problems.
3. Increases the chances of germs
A warm environment is beneficial for the bacterial growth, it can provide a platform for bacterial infections and viral infections to increase. In this time risk of corona virus is already on a high and taking steam bath can worsen the effect. Germs may enter your body during steam bath and it could lead you to life threatening experiences. It can cause infections such as MRSA which need just this type of environment to breed. Hence it is always recommended to wash your hands thoroughly after a particular time.

4. Chronic Illness
Taking steam bath can also increase the chances of chronic illness. This is because the diseases like fibromyalgia affect a person at high rate in this temperature. People having asthma and persistent cough might also have problems that may lead you to chronic illness. Your asthma and breathing issues may worsen because of this chronic illness. Steam bath can give rise to chronic or acute illness until you get yourself diagnosed by a physician.
5. Dehydration
Dehydration can also be caused by taking steam bath because temperature becomes more than healthy which releases excessive sweat from your body. Because of this reason, you might have dehydration and water retention in your body. Steam bath can also cause people to faint in some conditions who are not comfortable with steam bath. This also causes fatigue, dizziness and dry mouth to many people who take steam bath. To prevent this take a cool shower after steam bath but do it gradually as quick change in temperature may increase the chances of diseases.

6. Corona Virus
In these times of COVID-19, it is particularly dangerous to take steam bath. This is because corona virus can even penetrate in extreme temperatures. Steam bath room is an excellent place for corona virus to stay for a long period in that room. Hence if even there is slight corona virus present in the room, it may infect all the people that use the steam room or take steam bath. Hence it is important to stay away from steam baths until this COVID-19 risk dulls away, however the chances are still low.
