Ringworm infection is one of the most occurring fungal infections which happen to people. As the name suggests, it forms in the shape of a ring on the skin, and causes fungal infection in the body. But did you know that it is fungus in the shape of worm in round shape and not actually a worm affecting your body. There have been many treatments which have been effective to treat ringworm infection but the benefits of Ayurveda are beyond just medicinal benefits. It not only treats the infection but also prevents other problems from spreading in the body. Today we are going to tell you about some remedies that are effective for ringworm. Yes, there are ayurvedic treatments of different kinds which could be used in treating ringworm infection very effectively. Doctor of Ayurveda tells that ringworm is referred as ‘dadru’ in Ayurveda. According to him ringworm is caused because of poor hygienic conditions which allow fungus to infect and invade the skin. Apart from home remedies for ringworm infection, Ayurveda has Lepa, haridra, palash and some others. Effects of Ayurveda on Ringworm are also very positive and it does not harm your skin. Let us look at ayurvedic remedies which you would apply to treat ringworm.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Ringworm infection

1. Lepa

This is a paste which is made of several different herbs together. This combination of herbs is used to make formula which has ghee and lepa herb in it. Lepa which majorly consists of three herbs and ghee needs to be mixed well and formed a paste out of it. Another important factor that needs to be considered is that it needs to be applied warm after cleaning the skin.

Herbs that are available in lepa are-

  • Chakramarda which is also present in radish juice
  • It has bark of shigru in it
  • It also consists of manjishtha, triphala, haritaki and hardira along with mustard oil

Several techniques are used to make it a useful remedy, but you need to be careful about the quantity of every ingredient added to it. It also has seeds, sour curd and other nutrients which are helpful in treating ringworm infection from its root.

2. Shankhapushpi

Ayurvedic herbs for ringworm infection also consist of shankhapushpi. This is a spicy and bitter herb which has incisive and drying properties. This herb non only consist of medicinal properties but also helps to clean the infection and eradicate infected bacteria from the ringworm infection. When you use this herb, then it can also treat other skin problems associated with ringworm infection. Shankhapushpi needs to be applied directly in the skin infection to treat it effectively.

3. Haridra (Turmeric)

As we all know turmeric has anti-inflammatory and medicinal properties which are used to treat many skin problems. Haridra or turmeric is also useful in lowering down infection rate and also treats it. Turmeric can be had by applying the paste on the infection area or it can also be consumed with milk and vegetables. Hardira has antibacterial properties which gives aroma to the food and also relieves flatulence in the area.

Turmeric also aids in improving blood circulation and useful to manage skin disorders. It treats the wound created by infection and reduces inflammation to minimal levels.

4. Palash

Highly used in Ayurveda, palash constitutes of many properties which has therapeutic effects on the skin. It has butrin, isobutrin and palasitrin that help in reducing the inflammatory diseases. Ringworm fungal infection needs to be treated with palash as a mixed herb product. It is also available in the form of medicinal drink that could be effective in reduction of this problem.

5. Chakramarda

Ayurvedic herb for treatment of Ringworm infection is not just limited to therapeutic effects but also active components. Chakramarda has active compounds including these ingredients- 

  • Sugar
  • Flavonoids
  • Alkanoids
  • Tannins
  • Saponins
  • Carbohydrates
  • Glycosides
