Although this is a natural process, there are various ways through which you can enhance this process. One effective measure is incorporating ayurvedic herbs into your diet. We spoke to Dr Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), PHC, Darbhanga, Bihar, who listed ayurvedic herbs that can help you detox your body.

Ayurvedic Herbs To Detox Your Body

According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, detoxification programmes may use a single procedure or a combination of methods, including fasting, using herbs, dietary supplements, sauna, and reducing environmental exposures.

Here are six ayurvedic herbs that can help in detoxifying your body, as listed by Dr Chaudhary:

triphala

Triphala

Triphala is a powerful combination of three fruits, Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Haritaki, and Bibhitaki. Dr Chaudhary said, “This trio forms a potent concoction known for its cleansing and rejuvenating properties. Triphala not only aids digestion but also helps in eliminating toxins from the body.” It acts as a natural laxative, promoting regular bowel movements and preventing the build-up of harmful substances in the digestive tract.

Turmeric

Another ayurvedic herb that can help detoxify your body with the help of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties is turmeric. It is revered for its ability to purify the blood and enhance liver function. “Adding turmeric to your diet or consuming it as a golden milk can aid in flushing out toxins, promoting a healthier liver, and boosting overall immunity”, added Dr Chaudhary.

ashwagandha

Ashwagandha

Dr Chaudhary said, “While not traditionally categorised as a detoxifying herb, ashwagandha plays a crucial role in ayurvedic medicine due to its adaptogenic properties. As a result, it promotes balance in the body and helps the body adapt to stress.” By reducing stress levels, ashwagandha indirectly supports the detoxification process, as chronic stress is known to contribute to the accumulation of toxins in the body.

Guduchi

“Guduchi is another potent immune modulator in ayurveda. It enhances the functioning of the immune system, allowing the body to better ward off infections and illnesses”, added Dr Chaudhary. A strengthened immune system is crucial for the body's natural detoxification processes. Guduchi also supports liver health, aiding in the elimination of toxins from the body.

Neem

Neem is a natural blood purifier and supports the body in eliminating toxins. It is also known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it effective in cleansing the skin and maintaining a healthy complexion.
