We all try to keep our eyes in best of health but sometimes it just happens because of certain circumstances that our vision gets disrupted. It could be because of some underlying health conditions, age factor or because of lifestyle issues which is also one of the most common causes. Unfortunately, there is no particular natural remedies that could prove to be effective in improving eye health without corrective eyewear measures or medication. However, it can help to reduce the further loss of vision, therefore it is important to know about the real facts that help in improving eye health. Today we will try to bust some common myths around this topic and make you aware of real facts.

What is the best way to take care of Eyes? 

If you really want to prevent yourself from eye problems and reduce risk of poor vision, it is best to take care of rest of the body. With proper sleep, good nutritious diet, regular eye checkups and avoiding health hazards, you can actively prevent yourself from eye problems. If you have got poor vision, then the best way is to use corrective glasses, or go through a laser therapy in order to treat medical conditions affecting your eyes. It could be because of hyperopia, astigmatism or myopia

Myth 1. Eating lots of carrots improve vision 

Carrots do contain vitamin A in them that are beneficial in enhancing your night vision, but this does not mean that it can treat your eyes with power. Carrots cannot also make you see better, it can just help you maintain a good eye health. Eating a balanced diet that is full to vitamins and minerals are beneficial for the eyes but it is a myth that it can actually make your poor vision better or correct.  

Myth 2. Continuous wearing of eye wear could gradually make your eye sight worse 

Not true at all, some people have this weird belief that using contact lenses or glasses for too long period in a day will make your eye sight even worse. Explanation for this given is that it makes your eyes addicted to lenses. No, it does not, in fact the truth is the more you wear eye correcting lenses, the more are your chances of improvement. Eye wear is designed to cure your refractive error, not to make it worse. Glasses or contact lenses are not going to change shape of your eyes or have any negative impact on them.

Myth 3- Relaxation or eye massage decrease need of Glasses 

Again, a big myth that is quite prominent and is believed by number of people. Methods like rubbing your palms on eyes, hot or cold compress or different face packs has nothing to do with improving your vision. It is just a method of relaxing nerves of your eyes and reducing strain from it. Therefore, it might prevent you from getting your vision worse, but does not improve it directly. But having said that, if you practice these remedies, you must continue it as it is beneficial for your eye health. 


Myth 4- Eye Exercises can correct your refractive errors 

There are many eye exercises that claim to be effective in training your eyes. It might be written that they improve your eye muscles, which might be true, but still cannot treat vision deformities. Also, you need to know that some eye exercises are very tiring for your eyes and might need rest after the exercise which is not mentioned. These exercises might be helpful for some people, but cannot be a effective remedy to cure your eye condition.

Fact- Taking breaks from screen time can reduce risk of eye problems 

Even though it might be difficult with your job, try to take small breaks and look 20 feet away at every 20 minutes for 20 seconds. This is a medically proven way to prevent digital eye strain and problems such as eye fatigue. This can also prevent you from getting headaches, neck tension and decreased vision which happen because of excessive screen time.
