‘Roshan Punjab’ Plan to End Power Cuts — Mann Government’s 24-Hour Electricity Promise Near Reality

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has launched the ‘Roshan Punjab’ scheme to make the state free from power cuts. This ambitious project aims to provide 24-hour affordable and uninterrupted electricity to every home, farm, and industry across the state by next year. The Chief Minister said, “This is not just about electricity, it is a vision for Punjab’s bright future.”

Under this scheme, the government has invested ₹5,000 crore, marking the largest regional investment in the power sector so far. Power Minister Sanjeev Arora and PSPCL Chairman Ajay Kumar Sinha are monitoring the project. The government’s objective is that no farmer should remain in darkness, and no factory should halt due to lack of electricity.

GVK Thermal Plant Now Under Government Control

The state government has acquired the GVK Thermal Plant in Goindwal Sahib, bringing direct control of electricity production under state authority. Long-term coal supply from the Pachhwara mine has also been ensured to prevent any disruption in electricity generation.
Under the ‘Roshan Punjab’ scheme, new substations are being set up across the state, old stations are being upgraded, and new transmission lines are being laid. This will reduce both voltage fluctuations and power cuts.

Special campaigns are being conducted in 13 municipal corporations to fix loose wires, open meter boxes, and disorganized lines of PSPCL. Additionally, a modern 180-seat call center has been established in Mohali to make the 1912 helpline more effective.
With the ‘Roshan Punjab’ scheme, the state is truly moving towards living up to its name — illuminating every corner.
