Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Punjab has witnessed historic changes in the education sector. In the National Achievement Survey 2024, Punjab secured the first position in the country for the first time, surpassing traditionally leading states like Kerala. The performance of students in classes 3, 6, and 9 propelled Punjab to the top.
This achievement is the result of the state government’s education reforms, digital schooling initiatives, and teacher training programs. Government schools in Punjab are now challenging private institutions. According to Minister Bains, “This success is a confluence of the hard work of ordinary students and the policies of the government.”
Government school students have also excelled in challenging exams like NEET and JEE. In 2025, 845 students cleared NEET, 265 cleared JEE Mains, and 44 cleared JEE Advanced, of which 6 students secured admission to IITs. This success is a direct outcome of the “Schools of Eminence” program and government coaching camps.
The state government provides free books and uniforms to all government school students. Over 15.49 lakh students have received uniforms, while textbooks are distributed free of cost both online and offline.
The Punjab Education Recruitment Board recruited 725 new teachers in 2025, and over 10,000 contract teachers were regularized. So far, more than 25,000 teachers have been appointed or made permanent.
This revolutionary transformation in education has made Punjab the leading educational state in the country, where studying in government schools is now a matter of pride.
