A New Identity for Healthcare in Punjab: “Aam Aadmi Clinics” Become People’s First Choice

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has brought a historic transformation in the healthcare sector, making the ‘Aam Aadmi Clinic’ the most successful model of public service. Modeled after Delhi’s Mohalla Clinics introduced by the then Arvind Kejriwal government, this initiative has now reached every district and village in Punjab.

As of October 2025, a total of 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics are operational in the state, including 530 in rural areas and 312 in urban areas. So far, over 2.2 crore people have received treatment at these clinics, and more than 80 lakh tests have been conducted free of cost. It is estimated that this initiative has resulted in savings of around ₹1,050 crore for the public.

Each clinic provides 107 types of medicines and 47 types of diagnostic tests free of cost. On average, 70–80 patients visit each clinic daily. These clinics not only treat common illnesses but also offer special health services for pregnant women and essential facilities like anti-rabies injections.

Chief Minister Mann stated that the government is not only expanding the number of clinics but also ensuring a steady supply of medicines. To achieve this, CMOs and SMOs have been granted the authority to procure medicines locally, ensuring that no clinic faces a shortage of drugs.

Additionally, under the ‘Mukh Mantri Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana’, work has begun to provide cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh per family. Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Clinics have now become symbols of trust and reliability, where treatment, medicines, and hope are all available free of cost.
