Whether it is winter cold or extreme air pollution, different factors can cause sore throat. It can get really uncomfortable if you experience itchiness alone. Generally, sore throat may clear up in a day or two but if it persists for longer, it could be a warning sign of respiratory infection. You don’t feel like eating or drinking anything due to soreness but you must as certain foods may speed up the healing process. You must fuel your body with key nutrients to ease throat irritation, itchiness and inflammation. 

We have jotted down some foods that are helpful in relieving sore throat and accelerating the healing process.

Soup

Clear soup and bone broth are the best warm and nutritious drinks for sore throat. These have less spices and more nutrition which is appropriate for soothing sore throats. Chicken soup is preferred over others as it is found to aid elimination of nasal mucus and inhibit white blood cells that worsen infection. These are hot and hydrating which helps tissues retain fluid. For sore throat, you should only have clear soups with limited ingredients except salt and black pepper. Plus, this can be a whole meal in itself.

Everyone knows that ginger is a panacea for cough, cold, and sore throat. Ginger is extremely great in reducing inflammation and pain that eventually reduces the discomfort caused due to sore throat. You can have ginger water, ginger honey tea, and ginger candies to get relief from sore throat. 

Honey

Another supremely soothing ingredient for sore throat is honey. Whether you have a cold, cough or itchy throat, consuming honey can mitigate the symptoms. Honey is known for its medicinal benefits owing to antibacterial and antiviral properties it possesses. Having a spoon of organic honey with warm water or with ginger extract can soothe sore throat. However, do not over consume as it has sugar which might interrupt the healing process.

Oatmeal is more than a mere breakfast meal. You must not compromise with your diet and nutrition when you have a sore throat. Oatmeal is rich in fibre, antioxidants, zinc and magnesium to allow the throat to heal faster.
