With Diwali just around the corner everyone is busy with the preparation of one of the most important and celebrated festivals. Where in order to prepare for this festival people get engaged in activities like cleaning, decorating, shopping and preparing for snacks and sweets, many of us tend to forget some preparations that are very important while preparing for this festival. Well here we are not talking about your outfit of the day or home decor but the safety measures that you need to take. As you put a lot of thought behind the kind of look you are going to create on diwali, take a moment to ponder upon something far more important than that which is your and your family’s safety. As Diwali or Deepawali is the festival of lights, decorating our house with those clay diyas and string lights is something people have been doing since ages now.

Despite the ban on crackers, some believe in bursting crackers as a part of tradition. Where various organisations often tell people to not indulge themselves in this practice, we would like to request you all to stay safe this diwali. Where it is not just the poisonous smoke that these crackers emit but in many cases give rise to numerous casualties. In such times, what comes handy is a first aid kit specific to the occasion to tackle medical emergencies. We have brought to you a list of first aid essentials for Diwali that should be a part of your first aid kit for an emergency situation.

#1 Bucket of water/ Ice

Something that might not fit into your first aid kit but is the most important thing that you should have near you all the time in any condition is a bucket of cold water. Where a lot many mishaps are observed during diwali that not just happen while burning crackers but can also happen due to those diyas and candles when left unattended. Using water to soothe any kinds of burns and blisters caused due to fire or firecrackers is the first thing one needs to do. Make sure that the water you have kept is not hot and is a bit cold or at room temperature.

#2. Disinfectant

An important part of any first aid kit, a disinfectant is  ust have that you should keep in your diwali first aid kit. These disinfectants or antiseptic liquids need to be applied using clean cotton balls on the site of the wound in order to avoid any kind of contamination and infection. Disinfectants or antiseptic liquids are to be applied ono the wounds immediately after washing them up with cold water as if these wounds get infected they can result in causing greater problems such as blood poisoning, and gangrene.

#3. Antiseptic cream/ lotion

Where soothing those blisters and burns with cold water and disinfecting them with the help of those antiseptic is not enough, antiseptic creams and lotions come into play. These antiseptic creams have an important role to play when it comes to soothing and treating burns and blisters caused due to fire. As the name suggests, the antiseptic properties of these products help to prevent infection and irritation along with skin inflammation on the site of the wound. 

#4. Gauze

Applying an antiseptic lotion to the wound and leaving it all open is one of the biggest sins that you can do. The gauze and medical tapes are placed in the first aid box for an important reason and hence should be used accordingly. These medical gauzes are skin friendly and hence are suitable for dressing most of the cases if wounds and cuts. These medical gauze swabs ensure that the antiseptic applied stays on the wound for long and helps in healing.

Well if not with cotton then how else are you going to apply disinfectant over those wounds? When it comes to a first aid kit, these little cotton balls have a very important role to play as they help you in applying various antiseptics and ointments without touching the wound and without causing any kind of pain.
