What are Nutraceuticals? Know their Benefits for Mental Well-being

Nutraceuticals are those food ingredients that help the human body heal and stay healthy. Nutrition advisers always recommend these nutrient-rich food items, sometimes called "dietary supplements", as an integral part of a healthy diet since they ensure our bodies get all the vitamins and minerals needed and actively help prevent and treat diseases. Nutraceuticals provide the body with all the nutrients it needs the primarily from the food we eat. Thus making it essential we all include food ingredients that are rich in nutraceuticals in our diet.

Nutraceuticals for mental health

Since nutraceuticals ensure our body gets a whole range of nutrients and micronutrients through our food, they can play an essential role in our mental health. One of the causes of mental health issues is the imbalance of specific hormones and nutrients in our bodies. Therefore, a wholesome diet with proper nutrients can help rebalance hormone levels and play an essential role in preventing and managing mental health problems.

Certain foods help keep your body's nervous system in check. They allow the whole system to function at its full potential and prevent mental illnesses. However, if someone suffered from infections such as inflammations, imbalanced gut microbes, a change in the level of brain cells and an increase in the production of free radicals, compromising their nervous system, makes them susceptible to mental illnesses.

The antioxidants found in these fats help fight stress and further reduce reduced brain functions and illness symptoms. MCT(Medium Chain Triglycerides) are fats which are found in foods like coconut oil, dairy products etc. MCT helps as a fast fuel for body and brain to boost energy, improves gut health and support brain function.
