Punjab’s Sadak Surakhya Force becomes a “Shield of Life”, saving over 40,000 lives so far

Punjab’s Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF), established under the government of Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann, has brought a remarkable reduction in road accidents, saving more than 45,000 lives. Formed in January 2024, this force is deployed every 30 km across 4,100 km of roads. Equipped with 144 high-tech vehicles like Toyota Hilux and Mahindra Scorpio, the teams reach the accident site within 5–7 minutes to provide first aid and ensure the injured are safely transported to hospitals.

About 28% of the SSF personnel are women, who are not only ensuring road safety but also taking action against crimes such as drug trafficking and vehicle theft. The force has played a crucial role in preventing 12 suicide attempts and ensuring the safety of women travelers, school children, and tourists at night. Notably, in areas under the SSF’s jurisdiction, no school-going child has died in a road accident, which stands as a historic achievement.
Use of Technology

The SSF is equipped with speed guns, body cameras, e-challan systems, and AI technology, making policing faster, smarter, and more transparent. During the recent floods, the force also contributed significantly to relief operations. According to top Punjab Police officials, the SSF has not only reduced accidents but also strengthened public trust in the police. The force has been provided with 144 modern vehicles for its operations.

₹4,150.42 crore to improve rural roads

Chief Minister Mann has launched a project worth ₹4,150.42 crore to upgrade 19,491.56 km of rural roads, along with a ₹91.83 crore road safety initiative that includes white lane markings, zebra crossings, and signboards. This initiative will further promote trade, transportation, and economic development across Punjab.
