PM Modi’s Statement on His Sweat Skincare Secret1 - 2025-09-18T101603.199

During an interaction with winners of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in January 2020, PM Modi was asked the secret behind his glowing face. He replied simply, “Someone asked me many years ago, How come you have such a radiant face? I had a simple answer. I said I work hard and I sweat so much that I massage my face with it and it gives me a glow.”

He wanted the children to work and sweat at least four times a day. This is what he was advising as a greater part of his message to young achievers, not to give up on working hard and dedicating themselves. The remark of PM Modi about using sweat as a form of natural massage startled many and created interest among people in finding out whether or not there are skin benefits of sweat.

Expert Explains the Hidden Benefits of Sweating for Skin

Dr Sukansha Kulshrestha explains that sweat is not only water of the body, but has salts and antimicrobial peptides which are useful in the health of the skin. According to her, sweating is helpful in clearing the clogged pores by sweeping the dirt and toxins that are deposited on the skin surface. This natural cleansing process is capable of enhancing the skin texture and giving it a healthy glow.

Some of the primary advantages of sweating to your skin, as mentioned by Dr Kulshrestha, are as follows:

  • Detoxification: Sweat will assist in eliminating impurities and toxins via the skin, which will neutralise acne and dullness.
  • Enhanced circulation: Exercise causes the body to sweat; this boosts blood circulation, which feeds skin cells with oxygen and nutrients to aid in regeneration.
  • Hydration boost: As long as the sweat is evaporated, the moisture initially can be used to keep skin hydrated in a temporary situation.
  • Natural exfoliation: PM Modi said this by sweating and then massaging the face, which is a natural exfoliation of the dead cells, which softens.
  • Antimicrobial defence: The substances contained in the sweat assist in combating bacteria and prevent infection of the skin.

Dr Kulshrestha also reminds that after sweating properly he/she should clean up to remove the excess salt and avoid irritation. Using her advice, one should never leave sweat on their skin too long, particularly when the individual is always under the influence of acne or sensitivity.

Simple Ways to Use Sweating for Skin Health

  • Do moderate physical activities such as walking, jogging or yoga to encourage sweating of the body.
  • Sweat, then rinse your face under water and apply a light cleanser.
  • Apply gentle pressure to your face using clean hands or a soft cloth in order to increase blood flow.
  • To maintain moisture loss through sweating, it is best to stay hydrated.
  • Do not harshly scrub immediately after sweating because this damages the skin.
