India is poised to take centre stage as the G20 Summit kicks off in Delhi. Amidst the summit's discussions and deliberations, the world leaders and their teams will be served various Indian cuisines during their stay. As per reports, there are more than 500 dishes on the menu, including Indian street and traditional foods, with over 120 chefs working on the menu.
Five and seven-star hotels in the National Capital Region (NCR) have been bustling with preparations to welcome dignitaries like US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
As India observed the International Year of Millets this year, millets are believed to be the highlight. According to the reports the dignitaries would be served various regional delicacies, such as thukpa.

Millets
As per Saloni Jhaveri, In-house Nutritionist, Conscious Food, millets offer a range of health benefits. They are a rich source of dietary fibre, promoting digestive health by preventing constipation and reducing the risk of gastrointestinal diseases. Millets also contain prebiotic compounds that support the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, enhancing digestion and immune function. Additionally, millets have anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce gut inflammation, potentially mitigating conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

The dignitaries would be served with Ayurvedic food during breakfast. As per the reports, some dishes would be prepared from various millets.
Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, emphasises the importance of balance and harmony in the body. These breakfast items aim to promote well-being through food by using ingredients and cooking techniques aligned with this philosophy.
Deserts with a Twist
Even the G20 summit menu's desserts are made to offer taste and health benefits.
- Ragi laddoos, for instance, are made from finger millet, a nutrient-rich grain. These laddoos are not only delicious but also gluten-free and packed with calcium, iron, and dietary fibre.
- Ragi badam pinni is another dessert on the menu. Ragi or finger millet is a source of plant-based protein and essential amino acids. It's perfect for those looking to add more protein to their diet without animal products.
- Barley kheer, another dessert on the menu, is low in fat and high in dietary fibre, making it a heart-healthy choice.
