A recent study published in the research journal 'Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention,' asserts that men who eat at least 10 portions of tomatoes or tomato juice per week have decreased risk of developing prostate cancer.
The second most common type of cancer in men is prostate cancer. Some experts believe that prostate cancer is linked with diet and lifestyle where the rate of getting prostate cancer is higher in developed countries. Researchers, therefore, say that modifications in lifestyle and diet habits can cut down the risk of prostate cancer.
Tomatoes contain lycopene, a natural chemical that is said to be beneficial in reducing cancer risk. This improves the function of blood vessels and also regulated cholesterol. People who are suffering from high cholesterol and cardiovascular problems should consume tomatoes to secure their health.

The team of researchers from the University of Bristol, UK, led by Vanessa Er conducted this study where they found that lycopene expels harmful toxins from the body which do damage cells and DNA.
They compared to diet and lifestyles of around 1800 men, aged between 50-69 a suffering from prostate cancer to healthy 12,000 men. As per the results, men who consumed 10 portions of tomato-based products every week have an 18% lesser risk of getting prostate cancer.
Vanessa Er, School of Social and Community Medicine, University of Bristol and Bristol Nutrition BRU, the UK who led this research said, "Our findings suggest that tomatoes may be important in prostate cancer prevention. However, further studies need to be conducted to confirm our findings, especially through human trials. Men should still eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, maintain a healthy weight and stay active.”
