She says, “Your body has been running on limited fuel for nine days. The first foods you eat should be simple, easy to digest, and rich in nutrients. Avoid sudden heavy meals because they can shock the system and undo the benefits of fasting.”

After days of restricted eating, your body craves hydration and gentle support for digestion. The expert suggests the following. 

  • Saunf (fennel), methi (fenugreek), or ajwain (carom seed) water are excellent options. These have natural digestive benefits and help reduce bloating.
  • Coconut water is another refreshing choice. It replenishes electrolytes and gives instant energy without stressing the stomach.

“Think of this as a reset button for your gut before you start eating solid food again,” she added.

Don’t Forget Protein

After starving themselves, it is common to eat a lot of carbs and fried foods. But it is protein that keeps your energy constant throughout the day. The specialist gave a list of options that were good:

  • Fruit and seed smoothies made of curd.
  • Lentils or paneer-based dishes are served in small portions.
  • Lightly seasoned sprouts.

“Protein not only ensures maintenance of muscle mass, but also averts the sudden fatigue that usually follows the fasting period,” added the expert.

It is possible that you feel tired or uncomfortable, having broken your fast by using the wrong foods. The expert shared a few things to skip:

  • Fried food such as pakoras or puris.
  • Packaged foods that contain preservatives and sodium and are ready to eat.
  • One big meal after the fast, a massive breakfast, is capable of putting undue strain on the digestive system.

Moderation is the operative word, as Dt Mehra puts it. The concept is to reintroduce foods continuously in a gradual manner to ensure that the stomach and intestines become accustomed to them in a comfortable manner.

How To Ease Into Meals

The feasts do not happen on the first day of Navratri fast but rather through mild reintroduction. Dt Mehra says to adopt a pragmatic method and below is how you can try. 

  • Begin the morning with a hot herbal drink or a coconut drink.
  • That with a few of the nuts.
  • Have a light breakfast consisting of proteins such as curd smoothie or sprouts.
  • Eat less and eat many times a day.
  • In this manner, your energy will remain equal and your digestion will be adjusted in a natural way.
