Summers are here and along with the unbearing heat and humidity, it also bring to you a oily skin. Sun exposure makes the skin go oily and tanned, taking away the natural glow. Exposure to the sun not only tans the skin but also causes skin problems like acne, body breakouts and blemishes.

How is Acne Formed?

Acne occurs when the openings of hair follicles become clogged and blocked with oil and dead skin cells. If the clogged pore becomes infected with bacteria, it forms a pimple, which is small red bump with pus at its apex. 

Acne is a very common skin condition that causes pimples which mostly pop on the face, forehead, chest, and upper back. 

However, there are several causes which lead to acne oe acne prone skin including genetics, fluctuating hormone levels, stress, high humidity and using oily or greasy personal care products. Acne commonly affects teenagers during puberty but can occur at any age and is accentuated in the summer season.

Why does the summer season bring on more acne and breakouts?

If you have an acne prone skin, you may have noticed that your breakouts are accentuated in summers. Hotter temperature don’t seem to stop us from layering on sunscreen, body butter or oil to keep our skin glowing and moisturized. But sweat when mixed with grime and other factorscan lead to concoction which breaks out the skin more.  

Heat can bring on  increased oil production,sweating, and clogged pores All of these make acne even worse. However, with just a few changes in your skincare routine your acne can be taken control of all summer long.

How to treat acne and acne prone skin?

1. Use a Foaming Cleanser

Heat and humidity can cause oil glands to work at a higher pace. So, it is beneficial to wash your face with a foaming cleanser atleast twice a day.

2. Add an astringent to your skincare regimen

In the overbearing heat of the sun,  add an astringent to your skincare regimen and you will not regret it. Astringents are a great way to remove excess oil from the top layer of the skin leaving your skin looking matte.

3. Avoid popping those pimples 

As appealing or uncontrollable as it may be, it is important that you do not pop your pimples and/or acne. Refrain from spreading the pus anywhere else on the face or body and rinse thoroughly if it does on its own.

4. Lighten Up Your Moisturizer

Summer is an ideal time to lighten up on your moisturizer. Avoid heavy moisturizer during the summertime to keep acne and breakouts at bay. 

5. Use a Good Sunscreen Daily

Outdoors or not, it is extemely essential to put sunscreen on all the areas of the body which will be directly exposed to the sun. 

6. Shower After You Sweat

Sweat can irritate acne and breakouts. So it deems necassary to hit the shower immediately after working out, or anytime you've been sweating.

7. Have Proper Diet And Sleep Adequately

You are what you eat. So, it is very important that you have a balanced and wholesome diet. Eat your greens and seasonal fruits. A healthy body inside is a healthy body outside. It is as essential to sleep atleast 7-8hours a day to maintain a healthy body inside out.
