Alzheimer's is a disease in which a person's memory becomes weak, and he/she starts forgetting essential stuff like acquaintance's name, face, locking the door, medicine, food, phone number etc. However, this disease begins with forgetting small things. A person's brain cells begin to harden due to Alzheimer's, in which the memory starts slowly disappearing. Sometimes this disease can also cause Physical Disability. Doctors are yet to know the cause of Alzheimer's disease. But research shows that if you remain physically active and do a little exercise every day, then you are at less risk of Alzheimer's. Let us tell you some early signs of Alzheimer's disease and some easy yoga asanas to prevent it, which you can practice at home.
Early signs of Alzheimer's
- Individuals undergoing an early stage of Alzheimer's disease can usually eat, bathe, dress, and get dressed without assistance. Two-thirds of people develop psychological problems such as personality changes, irritability, stress, and pressure. Relationships with friends and family members can become tense when such symptoms appear before diagnosis.
- As Alzheimer's disease advances to its middle and end stages, the afflicted person may experience visual hallucinations (false illusions, such as being chased or having their belongings stolen) and delusions (such as watching, hearing, smelling, tasting or having a touch of something that is not there). The person may become aggressive or wander away from home when left alone.
Do yoga to prevent Alzheimer's
Although yoga is very beneficial for your health, do you know that yoga can also be used to keep your memory in order?
Pranayama and meditation
Pranayama is the best medicine for your brain while keeping the body healthy. Sitting in a state of sukhasana by laying a blanket (in a flat place), do anulom-vilom regularly every morning and then meditate for 10 minutes.
Ustrasana
Ustrasana causes tension in the spinal cord cells passing through the spine, causing the blood circulation to increase, (which improves memory). If you do this asana even for three minutes every day, then you benefit greatly.

Chakrasana
Chakrasana works by increasing the blood flow in the brain cells (allowing blood to reach the brain cells where it could not arrive earlier). The hormone released from the pituitary gland of the brain increases the efficiency of the brain as soon as the blood flows in the dormant cells. Its regular practice is beneficial for the eyes, brain etc.

Trāṭaka
Keeping your eyes fixed at any point without blinking an eyelid is called trāṭaka. With this, the dormant centres of the brain begin to awaken, increasing memory. Do you know that memory is directly related to the mind and its concentration? The concentration of the mind and the strength of the memory is hidden within the brain's attention. Hence, the regular practice of trāṭaka increases level.
Alzheimer's Prevention
Staying physically and mentally active in Alzheimer's disease, high education level reduces the risk of developing it, in addition to regular exercise and taking a Mediterranean diet (fish, olive oil, plenty of vegetables) to avoid symptoms (can slower the development of this disease).
Expected duration
Alzheimer's disease is incurable. Once diagnosed, mental functions usually decline in 3 to 20 years (10 years on average), and eventually, the patient dies.
Treatment
There is no specific medication for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, but "collagenase" inhibitors and "memantine" can improve daily functioning, reduce behaviour problems, and avoid the need for a health centre.
