WHO Warns: Omicron Can Change Feeling Of Safety Any Moment

Corona virus has been spreading and increasing its rate of transmission from its first variant itself. We have seen various variants of COVID-19 some of which were very serious whereas some of them were just mere minor infections. World Health Organisation Chief Dr. Tedros has also pointed out of the uncertainties in this corona virus wave. As soon as we assume that COVID-19 is not finally taking a back step, it jumps on us with another more severe variant of corona virus. WHO has especially pointed out the concerning levels of Omicron transmission and hence said that feeling of safety can change any movement.

WHO Update of Omicron COVID-19

World Health Organisation Chief Dr. Tedros has pointed out that omicron can change the feeling of safety any moment. This disease knows no borders and as we have seen with Omicron variant of COVID-19, there are high levels of uncertainties. Depending on the place people live, it might be possible that you feel that COVID pandemic is almost over, and that is where it gets worst. Because this pandemic is far from getting over and COVID-19 hasn’t finished yet, said WHO chief.

Report on COVID-19 Omicron variant

Earlier this week, a report by UN health agency was released which stated that omicron variant has been increasingly dominant variant and has caused over 500 thousand deaths since its detection. This is higher than the rate of its previous wave delta and can thus cause severity in the future. The report from GISAID has mentioned that omicron variant makes upto 97 percent of the total cases being registered in last 30 days, so only 3 percent of cases are coming of delta variant, omicron has emerged as the dominant variant in COVID-19.

Future of COVID-19 Pandemic

Dr. Tedros, Chief of WHO has claimed that virus will continue to evolve but we have tools for our defence. He has said that the best way to prevent is to get tested for COVID-19 and to treat it in best possible way. People who have access to testing kits, they have been able to keep COVID-19 under control. Otherwise omicron is spreading to evolve and is taking lives of many people in other states.

Vaccines are effective against Omicron variant but they have shown reduced protection after the first wave of COVID-19. Also omicron wave has led to people being more asymptomatic and thus the rate of infection has increased. World Health Organisation has said that booster dose can increase vaccine effectiveness to over 75% but this efficacy is going to decline after 3-6 months of vaccination.
