After Matcha, New ‘Loaded Water’ Has Been Getting Viral: Should You Try It? Here Is What the Expert Thinks

Healthy eating and drinking trends always find ways to grab our attention. Some promising quick fixes, others offering long-term benefits. Not long ago, matcha, the Japanese green tea powder, went viral for its antioxidant powers and energy boost. Now, a new drink called "loaded water" is making waves across social media. These trends spread fast because they promise a simple way to boost health. But as always, the big question remains: is it worth the hype, or just another passing fad? We reached out to an expert to get an answer.

What Exactly Is Loaded Water?1 - 2025-09-26T154450.140

The term sounds fancy, but loaded water is basically regular water that has been mixed with powders or ingredients like electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, or even collagen. The idea is to make plain water “loaded” with extra nutrients that claim to help with energy, skin, and hydration.

Dt Rakshita Mehra, Founder, Nutrishala, Delhi, explains that loaded water is essentially plain or sparkling water infused with natural ingredients like fresh fruits, herbs, electrolytes, and other nutrients. “Loaded water is a hydrating drink that enhances plain water by adding elements such as cucumber, lemon, mint leaves, coconut water, and sometimes electrolyte powders, all aimed at improving flavour and boosting nutrition,” she says.

Rakshita also points out, “The main benefit of loaded water is that it makes hydration more enjoyable and appealing, encouraging people to drink more water throughout the day without consuming extra calories or added sugars often found in sodas or juices.”

Should You Try Loaded Water?3 - 2025-09-26T154445.572

With so much hype, the question remains: should you jump on the loaded water trend? Rakshita advises, “If you struggle to drink enough plain water, loaded water offers a refreshing alternative that can help keep you hydrated. It’s low in calories, typically has no artificial additives, and can provide tiny nutrient boosts, especially if you include fresh fruits and herbs."

The expert also adds that athletes, people who sweat a lot, or those recovering from illness may benefit from electrolyte-added water. Always check the ingredient list. Some brands sneak in sugar or artificial flavours, which defeats the purpose.
