Green tea is loaded with antioxidants named catechins that makes it a potent health drink. Most people consume green tea for weight loss but it also aids blood glucose regulation, strengthens immunity and offers disease prevention. While drinking 1-2 cups of green tea daily is beneficial, overconsumption might take a toll on your health.

Gas, acidity, constipation, burning sensation in the stomach, and indigestion can be caused. Tannins present in green tea are responsible for triggering digestive problems. It shouldn’t be consumed in excess. In the worst case, it may even lead to diarrhea.
Green tea is best known to relieve headache but did you know that it can give you a headache if you consume it? It can worsen to such an extent that green tea can even trigger migraine. People who are allergic to caffeine are highly likely to get chronic headaches after over consuming green tea.
Tannins in green tea are found to trigger nausea and constipation. Excess tannins can bind proteins in the intestine that may make you feel nauseous and constipated. Stop consuming more than three cups of green tea in a day to avoid this condition. Also, add lemon juice to your green tea to prevent nausea if you are a seasoned tea drinker.
Drinking more than three cups of green tea in a day can hamper your sleep cycle. Even though it has less caffeine as compared to tea and coffee, excess green tea can be really bad for your sleep. This can alter melatonin (a sleep-inducing hormone) that may obstruct your sleep cycle and keep you awake for long hours.
Blood pressure fluctuations
Consuming green tea in excess can cause irregular heartbeats due to the caffeine present in it. When you over consume green tea, it may lower your blood pressure. Excess consumption of green tea may weaken the bones of people who are deficient in calcium. There are conflicting views of experts on this as various studies favour green tea for prevention from bone loss. While some studies mention that overconsuming green tea might increase the risk of osteoporosis. So, it is better to have green tea in regulation to not risk your bone health.
May cause anemia
There are antioxidants in green tea that are good for general health. However, when antioxidant levels get high, it might affect the absorption of iron in the body. If you drink more than four cups of green tea every day, you might become anemic.
