quit smoking

Set a date

Make a plan and promise yourself that you are going to quit smoking on a specific date. And just stick to that date and your promise. Think of that promise and how much it means to you every time you feel like having a small puff. Remind yourself that you can’t even take a puff once you are past your ‘quit-date’, as a narrow miss as good as a mile.

Avoid cravings

You need to understand all the moments when you crave for a cigarette. Make a list of all such triggers before your ‘quit-date’ and plan an escape plan for each of the trigger. For example, if you feel like smoking when you are drinking, just avoid drinking when you quit smoking.

Make non-smoking friends

First thing first. You cannot quit smoking if you spend most of your time with people who smoke. After all, it’s hard to resist the temptation to smoke when your friends smoke in front of you. So either ask your friends to quit at the same time or just spend more time with non-smoking friends during next couple of months.

Stay put

Once you start making some progress, the reality will hit you soon. You will start feeling odd and really tempted to smoke. But it’s not as difficult as it feels. All you need to do is think positive about your plans. Reassure you that you are never going back.

Modify your diet

If you really enjoy smoking after having your meals, you need to make changes to your diet. A study conducted in US found that some foods such as meat, make cigarettes more satisfying for smokers, on the other hands foods such as fruits and vegetables, ruin the experience of smoking. So if you enjoy smoking after having your food, better start eating more of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Talk to your people

Let everybody who cares for you know that you are planning to quit and that you would need them to help you stay on your track. It can help a little, unless you cheat. But what surely does work is sharing your progress with your people. You can share how you feel after quitting or how you are resisting the temptation to smoke in that very moment.

Get active

Several scientific studies suggest that exercise helps reduce cravings. Besides, it helps you stay healthy and fit.
