Sadak Suraksha Force: Punjab's Shield of Life — Fewer Accidents, Stronger Trust

Punjab's novel experiment in the form of a Sadak Suraksha Force(SSF), has already turned out to be a sort of "shield of life" for the state's people. This special force, established in January 2024, saved the lives of more than 50,000 people in less than a year—a feat in itself. Formed under the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the force has successfully brought down the state's road accident fatality rate by 48–49 percent.

In Punjab, there are teams of SSF deployed on highways every 30 km of the total length of 4,100 km. After receiving any accident-related information, the team reaches the spot within 5 to 7 minutes and provides instant aid to the injured. The force is fully equipped with high-tech vehicles like Toyota Hilux and Mahindra Scorpio to ensure quick response on any given occasion.

The SSF’s role is not limited to road safety but has also played a significant role in helping the police control drug trafficking and theft of vehicles. The “Farishtey Yojana” set a new standard with the help of MapMyIndia, whereby accident victims are quickly transported to listed hospitals by the force.

Equipped on the technological front, SSF has adopted speed guns, body cameras, e-challan systems, and AI-based tools that make policing faster, smarter, and more transparent. Importantly, the force contributed exceptionally towards recent flood relief operations, too, and thus consolidated its image as a caring and humane unit.

Chief Minister Mann said that the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, had praised the Punjab Model and asked other states to replicate it. This initiative by the Road Safety Force is not only a perfect blend of technology and empathy but also a new chapter of hope and trust in the history of Punjab.
