Here Are Some Unusual Reasons That Cause Weakening Of Memory

Are you also someone who forgets his belongings after keeping them? Well, forgetfulness is okay but only if occasional. Regular episodes of forgetting things may develop in memory loss later in life. Memory tends to weaken with age but this is not the case with everyone. Some people have stronger memory even in the 70s while some people deal with weak memory even in 20s. There are various reasons behind memory loss where most common causes of the weakening of memory or memory loss are advancing age, poor diet, injury in the head, etc. While the common causes are known to everybody, there are some uncommon reasons that make your memory weak.

Sleep deprivation

Both quality of sleep and hours of sleep are extremely important for cognitive health including memory. Getting short hours of sleep or getting up at night often leads to fatigue, which makes it difficult to remember things. Besides, the way you sleep such as which side of the body you sleep to also says a lot about your health. Make sure that you take proper sleep of at least 6-8 hours daily.

Nutritional deficiency

A nutritious diet that contains all essential nutrients and food groups in the right proportion maintains health. Deficiency of any of the vital nutrient can lead to memory problems. Protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, all are essential for the smooth functioning of brain activities. Vitamin B1 and Vitamin  B12 deficiency can specifically affect memory.

Alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse

Excessive drinking has been recognized as a factor in losing memory. At the same time, smoking damages the memory by decreasing the amount of oxygen going to the brain. Reduced oxygenation is a risk factor for many health concerns. Some studies show people who smoke have significantly more problems in remembering things than those who do not. At the same time, drugs cause a chemical change in the brain that may make it difficult to remember things.

Stress, anxiety and depression

Being depressed can make it difficult to focus and concentrate on something that directly affects your memory. Despair and anxiety can also occur through concentration. When you are stressed and your mind is restless, your ability to remember can be affected. Memory may also be weakened due to emotional trauma. Thus, it is necessary to avoid unnecessary stress, anxiety and depression.
