Prajakta Koli, who was in the limelight for her recently released Netflix series, ‘Mismatched Season 3’ has recently spoken up about her diet. In a recent conversation, the popular YouTuber and actress shared her struggles with extreme dieting and revealed that her pursuit of weight loss led her to become "clinically sick." 

This experience was alarming and eye-opening for her as it highlighted the potential dangers of restrictive eating habits. Regarding the same, we contacted our expert, Varnit Yadav, an exercise and nutrition coach, to ask how people can stop falling sick when dieting.

When asked about her weight loss journey, Prajakta Koli emphasised that her success came from exercise rather than strict dieting. She stated, “I cannot diet; food makes me too happy, and I cannot give it up.” Reflecting on a past attempt at a strict diet, the YouTuber revealed, “I tried going on a strict diet once, and it made me clinically sick and sad.” 

After the COVID-19 lockdown, Koli recognised her unhealthy state, struggling with sleep deprivation, poor nutrition, inadequate hydration, and skin issues. She also experienced hair loss and fatigue after minimal physical activity. Her dieting attempt led to significant inflammation and bloating, which she later realised was due to muscle gain rather than fat loss.

He states, “Your body doesn't like being starved, so it efficiently signals when it needs food.” A frequent reason for feeling weak or unwell while dieting is neglecting essential nutritional needs, even when consuming fewer calories. To avoid falling sick while dieting, consider the following tips:

  • Prioritize Whole Foods: Focus on consuming nutrient-dense whole foods instead of processed options when cutting down on calories. This ensures you get the necessary vitamins and minerals.
  • Incorporate Fruits and Vegetables: Aim for at least two servings of fruits and vegetables daily. They are high in fibre and can help keep you full and satisfied.
  • Regular Health Monitoring: Get regular blood tests to check for any deficiencies or abnormalities in vitamin and mineral levels. This proactive approach helps you address any issues before they become serious.
  • Stay Hydrated: Optimal hydration is essential for overall health. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day to support bodily functions.
  • Prioritize Sleep: Aim for seven or more hours of quality sleep each night. Good rest is crucial for recovery and maintaining energy levels.

With countless dieting methods available online, not all are effective or worth pursuing; poorly planned strategies can lead to weakness and fatigue. Instead, focus on sustainable practices tailored to your individual needs.
