Warm salt water gargle

This is probably the first natural remedy anyone would advise you to rely upon when you have a strep throat. Gargling with salt water is one of the best natural remedies for older children and adults, and gargling several times a day could relieve throat pain. Just mix table salt into some warm water and gargle, after which you should make sure to spit it out.

Do not indulge in irritants

There are certain things that you should stay away from when you have a sore throat, as these would increase the likelihood of infections such as tonsillitis. Cigarette is the first irritant that you should avoid, and then others like fumes from paint or cleaning products, as these could be irritating to your throat and lungs.

Get enough rest

Though this doesn’t sound like a very effective way to fight some infection, but it can be better that you imagine. Sleep actually helps your body to fight infection, and during an event of a strep throat you should stay at home instead of going out to work or for any other purpose. There is a possibility of a fever breaking in too, and so the more rest you can take the better it would be for you. Also you should not start going out or get too active without a minimum of 24 hours of antibiotic therapy.

Foods to soothe

There are some foods that may irritate your throat even more and make matters worse, so you could stick to some foods that are friendly to your sore throat condition. Foods that are easy on your sore throat include broths, soups, applesauce, cooked cereal, mashed potatoes, soft drinks and soft-cooked eggs. You could even want to eat puree foods in the blender so that you can swallow them easily, and cold foods like sherbet, frozen yogurt or frozen fruit pops. Do not eat spicy foods or acidic foods like orange juice.

Drink water

It is important that you keep your sore throat moist and lubricated with water as it will keep it lubricated. Also as you may already know, drinking water would also keep your hydrated.

Just a side note on preventing strep throat, you should avoid coming in contact with anyone that already has strep infection, and if you happen to be around such a person then you should wash your hands often. The bacteria can also live on door knobs, water faucets and other objects, so wash your hands frequently.
