According to Delhi-based nutritionist Priya Bansal, "A ketogenic (keto) diet is a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet that aims to induce a state of ketosis in the body." Bansal went on to explain that ketosis occurs when the body switches from using carbs as its primary fuel source to using ketones produced from stored fat. "The diet typically involves consuming high amounts of healthy fats, moderate protein, and minimal carbohydrates," she added. 

Intermittent Fasting

According to Bansal, an intermittent fasting diet provides a cycling window during which a person is needed to fast for extended period of time and eat within the remaining window. "The body enters that fat-burning zone when you fast for more than 12 hours," she stated.

Vegan Diet

"Vegan diet eliminates all animal products, including meat, dairy, eggs, and honey, and focuses on plant-based foods," said Bansal. It emphasises fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds as the main sources of nutrition.

Things to Consider Before Beginning A Diet

Know Your Fitness Goals

Before beginning a diet, you must consider why you are doing so. Bansal advocated that a person should be aware of whether they want to lose weight, gain muscle, enhance their overall health, or treat a health problem. Diets have varying effects on the body and can serve a variety of purposes. She added, "Evaluating your health goals can help you choose the appropriate diet.” 

Consider Your Lifestyle 

Another factor to consider is your lifestyle and personal preferences. Some diets may require significant changes to your eating habits, such as eliminating certain food groups or adhering to strict eating windows.

Citing an example, Bansal explained that in order to reap the most benefits from the keto diet, you should begin consuming non-vegetarian foods. "It is critical to select a diet that fits your lifestyle and you are comfortable following it. If a diet feels too restrictive or difficult to maintain, it may not be the best fit for you," she advised.
