You might have come across the phrase, ‘eyes are the windows of the soul’. And why not? We express through our eyes, whether it is fear, anger, sadness, elation, or love. However, when you have dark circles, puffiness under your eyes, or premature wrinkles, it might affect what we tend to express. The skin under your eyes is extremely sensitive, more than that in other parts of your body. It is because the skin there is thin, lacks fat, bones, and even muscles. Also, it surrounds the eyes, which is a crucial organ for survival. You need to take special care of the skin under your eyes. So, how can that be done? Problems That Affect Under Eye Skin

Several problems affect the skin under the eyes, such as:

  • Wrinkles: Wrinkles are a normal part of ageing. However, when they result from premature ageing, you know something is wrong. Premature ageing in the form of wrinkles results from several factors, such as excessive use of makeup, exposure to sunlight, etc.
  • Dark circles: Lack of sleep often shows as dark under-eye circles. However, it isn’t the only cause. Excessive stress and lack of proper nutrition can also cause dark circles.
  • Puffy eyes: Ageing, lack of sleep or excessive sleep, fluid retention, etc can cause puffy eyes.

Although there are other conditions too that affect this part of the face, the above-mentioned are among the common ones.

How To Take Care Of Skin Around The Eyes?

Several factors can affect the skin around your eyes. These include skin sensitivity, diseases, nutrition, use of makeup, skincare products, home remedies, etc. Here are some tips for you to take care of the sensitive skin under the eyes:

  • Excessive screentime affects the eyes, which, in turn, can have an impact on the skin around them. Hence, when working on a laptop or smartphone, look here and there to exercise your eyes. Also, blink frequently to prevent any harm to your eyes.
  • Wash your face at least three times with a good face wash, recommends Dr. Singh.
  • Nutrition plays a huge role in skincare. Hence, have a balanced diet to ensure you aren’t nutrient deficient. Specifically, focus on vitamin B12 and D for good skin health.
  • Avoid any remedies recommended by someone. Sharing one of his cases, Dr. Singh said he had a patient who came to him with excessive swelling around her eyes. It happened as she applied papaya milk around her eyes as she read in a newspaper article.
  • The skin around your eyes is extremely sensitive. Hence, instead of applying any remedies, consult a dermatologist who knows better when it comes to skincare.

Also, be gentle with your skin, whether you are cleansing or removing makeup. Sleep plays a huge impact on your eyes, as well as the skin around them. Hence, ensure you sleep for about 7-8 hours every night. Also, drink enough water to stay hydrated.
