Detox is a method of cleansing the body that helps to flush out the toxins that have accumulated in your system. It consists of an essential role of water, fibrous food, juice, exercise, meditation and pranayama. The toxins enter your system through food, clothing, or air. Due to such accumulation of toxins in the body, you may have various problems like acne, fatigue, weight gain, bad breath, constipation, muscle aches and irritability etc. The conventional way to detox the body is water because it cleanses the system and can remove toxins from your body. But some people mix sea salt in water and also use it for detox. But the question arises, how does salt detox the body? Is it advisable to take saltwater first on an empty stomach in the morning?

First, the salt should be mixed with hot water, and after that, the water should be drunk on an empty stomach as minerals like sea salt magnesium sulfate, calcium sulfate, calcium chloride and potassium chloride are found in it. Saltwater removes toxins accumulated in the stomach and nourishes your body. However, there is no clear advice from experts on the use of saltwater to detox the body. We use salt water as a means to induce vomiting to cleanse any residue from the stomach. The human body cannot take too much salt at one time and starts to take it out of the body because salt has some special cleansing powers.

Salt detox does not work equally for everyone. Although salt can help balance minerals and has antibacterial effects, salt detox may not be recommended to everyone. Salt detox may not be approved to a person suffering from hypertension. People who have diabetes, low BP, kidney disease, oedema, and heart diseases should also avoid it. Salt detox can also be harmful to those who do not drink enough water as the salt can cause dehydration.

What is the best thing to detox? According to experts, a detox with just water is quite safe. Detox is better with fibre-rich fruits and vegetables. The human body can clean itself without any external help.

Do some running and exercise: Do you know that sweat also contains a lot of sodium? That is why doctors recommend that if you have overeaten salt, then you should run or do sweaty exercise as harmful minerals and chemicals come out of the body. Apart from this, exercise keeps you away from many diseases.

Fasting: If you have overeaten salt, then fasting is also a right way for you so that you can remove the excess minerals and salts stored in the body. During fasting, you should eat very light things and take maximum liquid diet. Apart from this, also keep in mind that during this time you should eat very less salty things. Just one day of fasting will be enough to detox your body.

Eat Potassium Rich Fruits and Vegetables: Salt contains sodium that is cut into potassium. Therefore, after overeating salt, to detox the body, you should eat fruits and vegetables that provide the right amount of potassium. Potassium neutralizes sodium in the body and helps in keeping blood pressure under control. Some high potassium foods are Banana, Avocado, Spinach, Beetroot, Potato, Tomato, Yogurt, Orange Juice, Green Vegetables etc.
