Ayurvedic Remedies For Bad Body Odour Due To Sweating: Expert Shares Fruits You Should Include In Your Diet

As summer is on the brink, profuse sweating is a pesky companion that all of us have to deal with. Body odour can be a natural consequence of sweating, and while modern deodorants offer a quick fix, Ayurveda suggests a more holistic approach to tackle the issue from within.

Talking to the team of OnlyMyHealth, Dr Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, PHC, Darbhanga, Bihar shared, “Certain fruits can help you to reduce body odour by addressing the root causes.” Here is a selection of fruits that he recommended for their properties in minimising body odour related to excessive sweating.

Apple

“Snack on a crisp apple for the dual benefit of freshness and nutrition,” said Dr Chaudhary. He continued, “Apples are known for their natural deodorising properties. The fibre in apples aids digestion, helping the body eliminate toxins that may contribute to body odour.”

Pomegranate

Dr Chaudhary shared that pomegranates are praised in Ayurveda for their cooling properties. A Chinese study found that pomegranates have more antioxidants than even apples, and their high antioxidant content may assist in detoxifying the body, reducing inflammation, and contributing to a more pleasant body odour.

Citrus Fruits

Dr Chaudhary shared that citrus fruits like lemons and oranges are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. According to a study published in the journal Nature Reviews, citrus fruits are believed to help detoxify the body and neutralise odorous substances. “Start your day with a glass of warm water infused with lemon juice for a refreshing Ayurvedic kick,”

Watermelon

“With its high water content, watermelon helps keep the body hydrated, reducing the concentration of odorous compounds in sweat. Enjoy this juicy fruit as a hydrating snack during hot days,” said Dr Chaudhary.

Grapes

According to a study led by researchers from the Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine, grapes, especially dark varieties, are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals that can aid in detoxification. “They are considered a cooling fruit, helping balance excess heat in the body that can contribute to body odour,” said Dr Chaudhary.

Cucumber

Although commonly mistaken for a vegetable, cucumber is a fruit with high water content. “Including cucumber in your diet can contribute to overall hydration and assist in keeping body odour at bay,” recommended Dr Chaudhary.

Mango

While enjoying the sweet taste of mango, you're also benefiting from its cooling properties. “Ayurveda suggests that mango can help balance excess heat in the body, which may contribute to body odour,” said Dr Chaudhary.
