It is extremely important to ensure the food you are eating is healthy as well as hygienic. Having stale or undercooked foods can lead to severe food poisoning. It not just makes you sick but also causes grave discomfort. Even though it is not an unusual thing, it's quite uncomfortable.

1. Apple Cider vinegar

Due to its alkaline properties ACD has the potential to ease many food poisoning symptoms. It can kill the bacteria, hydrate you and replace some vital nutrients in your body that have been lost due to vomiting.

  • Take a hot cup of water and add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to it.
  • Drink it before your meal to soothe the gastrointestinal lining

2. Lemons

When life gives you lemons, use it to soothe your stomach. Lemon consists of acid, strong anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anti-bacterial properties which helps to kill the bacteria causing food poisoning.

3. Ginger

  • Boil one spoon of grated ginger with a cup of water.
  • Simmer it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add a tablespoon of honey to it.

4. Basil Leaves

A herb with strong anti-microbial properties and has the potential to kill foodborne pathogens. It helps in reducing the food poisoning symptoms and calming your stomach.

  • Add a little honey to it and consume immediately.

5. Garlic

An ingredient which is easily available at our home and is enriched with antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties. It is capable of killing the foodborne pathogens which is the main cause behind food poisoning. It helps in relieving stomach pain.

Food poisoning can happen for many various reasons but by taking some precautions you can save yourself and your family from getting into any such condition.

1. Wash your hands properly

Make sure that you wash your hands and they are completely clean before eating anything. The germs in your hands when going inside your body can cause infectious diseases that are commonly spread through hand-to-hand contact including flu, common cold and gastrointestinal disorders. One must know that food poisoning happens due to toxic, stale or undercooked food, and can also start due to unclean hands. Hence, make it a practice to wash hands before eating any meal. Also, in current times hand washing is the best way to keep COVID virus at bay. 

2. Wash your veggies

It is very important to ensure that you have washed your fruits and vegetables well before consuming or cooking. Washing them well helps you to get rid of any kind of dirt, bacteria or any other micro-organism present over its skin. Hence, make use of vegetable cleaning sprays or simply soak them in lukewarm water before cooking as it kills most harmful organisms and chemicals on it. Do not refrigerate vegetables immediately after buying. Wash, clean, air them out and then put for refrigeration as storing wet vegetables can lead to contamination. 

3. Refrigerate your leftovers

If you have cooked a little extra food and have some leftovers, do not keep that outside in such hot and humid weather. Make sure that you refrigerate it as soon as you can. Keeping cooked food outside for long can spoil it and might also be the reason behind bacterial growth. Hence, try to cook as per portion size and avoid storing anything for a longer duration especially in summer. 

4. Wash your dish cloths

Your dirty and damp dishcloths can be the perfect place through which bacteria can spread. Ensure that you wash them on a regular basis and sun dry them so that there is no scope of bacteria growth in them. Even the cloth used to mop the kitchen slab should be dry. Do not forget to air it out everytime after mopping the slab with water. 

5. Keep raw meat at a bay

Raw meat should be carefully washed and the water should be immediately drained and the bowl to be cleaned to ensure all bacteria is removed before cooking the meat. After washing, the meat should be thoroughly cooked for consumption as raw meat and poultry as reasons for various health concerns.
