Allergies are one of the common causes of nose tickling. They occur when your immune system is resistance to a particular thing in the environment. This can be any food item, smell, dust or grains etc. In case of allergies the body sends a signal as soon as it inhales that smell and it tickles your nose. The body reacts to it with constant sneezes or cold like symptoms. It can happen in both in indoor and outdoor environment; most common causes are pollens, dust mites or dander.
Depending on the type of allergy, treatment can be given. Allergies are either seasonal or happen all year long. To prevent this condition you should get check up done to find out your allergy and take some over the counter medicines for relief.
Another reason for tickle in nose is virus. It can be very troublesome at times because viral infection can stay in the body for long time. It can also infect other parts if the virus is strong and contagious. However sometimes it can be as simple as virus of common cold. In general adults get common cold 2-3 times in a year. Children are more vulnerable to this viral infection and it tickles their nose quite often. This can make your child irritated and fussy.
If you feel you are having tickle in your nose because of common cold or any virus, do the following-
- Sneeze your nose multiple times to expel mucus
- Keep washing your face with warm water
- Avoid drinking cold water
- Take some over-the counter medicines to kill germs
It can be either acute of chronic. Sinus is common problem among adults and it can cause severe tickling in the nose. If the tickle continues for over a weak, then it might be chronic sinusitis. This can become very irritating as there might be constant tickle and sneezing sensation in your nose. Sinusitis occurs when the passage of your nose becomes inflamed or swollen. It can result to these problems-
- Pain and tenderness around your eyes
- Difficulty in breathing
To treat this condition you need to visit the doctor and get adequate medicines. In some cases it can even last for months and years. However it can be controlled with help of medical help easily.
4. Nasal Polyps
This occurs in the nose when the person is suffering from chronic sinusitis. Nasal polyps are basically small, noncancerous growths that hang down from the lining your nose passage. This can cause tickling in your nose and irritation because of tickling. Nasal polyps can be caused by asthma, allergies, drug sensitivity and some immune disorders. However if the growth becomes large, then it may create problem in breathing and affect your sense of smell.
To prevent this condition-
- Blow your nose properly multiple times in a day.
- Keep a check on your health and status of sinus or allergies.
- Put nasal drops once in a while when you feel tickling on your nose
- Keep your nose moisturised
Most people consider headache to be the most prominent symptom of migraine. It is true but it is not the only one, migraines also cause a lot of tickle in the nose. There are different types of migraine that have different prominent symptoms, they are
- Blurry vision
- Tingling sensation
- Facial numbness
In some conditions of migraine, it is possible to experience tickling with no headache at all. Migraines can also come in stages and it tickle in nose can indicate the migraine attack. This can improve health of the person.
6. Nasal Tumours
This is a very serious illness, nasal and paranasal tumours can create problems in the passage of the nose creates tickling sensation very often. This can be used as an indication and symptom for nasal tumours. The worse condition could arise if it is found cancerous which could lead to life-threatening consequences. However tumours rarely occur in nasal passage and if it does it does not have any other major symptom. Possible symptoms that can indicate nasal tumours are-
- Loss of smell
- Frequent sinus infection
Depending on the type of tumour, the treatment can differ. If it is cancerous tumour, then a variety of treatments are need to be done and therapies are followed. In other cases surgeon may operate your nose to take out your tumour and give some medicines for recovery.
