The research, published in BMJ Case Reports' journal, mentions a 45-year-old man who is an asthma patient. After being severely infected with the coronavirus, his hearing power suddenly decreased. This person had no other hearing problems before the infection. The person was given steroid pills and vaccines, after which his hearing capacity partially returned. Researchers said in a study that due to the large number of people being infected, further research is needed on the problem of deafness so that this problem can be detected and treated.
Research on the link between COVID-19 & deafness
According to the scientists of 'University College London' in Britain, awareness about the cause of deafness due to this infection is essential. According to scientists, early identification of the problem of deafness is necessary. However, this problem can be treated with steroids. In the UK, COVID-19 patients who have been deaf have improved during treatment.
As per the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, sudden hearing loss or deafness usually affects the same ear. This situation is not uncommon. According to the authors, 160 cases out of 100,000 patients of deafness are occurring every year. According to the authors, in most cases, doctors are not able to detect sudden deafness, but when the condition is associated with flu, herpes and cytomegalovirus infection, the cause is detected.
