Bigg Boss 18: Shilpa Shirodkar Reveals Farah Khan Rejected Her for 'Chaiyya Chaiyya’ For Being Too Fat: “You Lose Some...”

After nearly two decades, it is almost impossible to imagine anyone else dancing on the train roof other than Malaika Arora for the song 'Chaiyya Chaiyya.' However, in a shocking revelation, Bigg Boss 18 contestant, Shilpa Shirodkar shared that she was approached for the song first but was rejected by Farah Khan for being too fat.

In Bollywood, and the entertainment industry at large, lean, slim celebrities are often preferred over healthier-looking actors and actresses due to the existing beauty standards and stereotypes. This fixation on physical appearances can take a toll on actors' mental health, triggering issues like anxiety and depression. Shilpa's rejection, in some way, also sheds light on the issue of body shaming within the industry.

Shilpa Shirodkar Was Called ‘Fat’ By Farah Khan

Between the breaks, Shilpa Shirodkar revealed that she was offered to be featured in the song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’, but Malaika replaced her later. Talking with Karan Veer Mehra and Chum Darang, the former actress shared that Farah Khan asked her to lose weight for the song'. “At that point of time, Farah had asked me to lose some weight,” she said, confessing that Farah Khan refused to take her in the song after a week or 10 days.

The filmmaker-choreographer had asked Shilpa to lose weight for the song opposite Shah Rukh Khan. When Karan Veer Mehra asked whether it was because she didn’t lose weight to which she said, “Farah told me, ‘You are too fat for the song’.” Upon the answer, KV burst out in laughter as he added that the train would have stopped. “Tu chadti toh train rukh jaati kya?” he jokingly said. Karan also mentioned that everything happens for good reasons, and she has made some great films. He believes that no one could have performed better than Malaika Aroa in the song.

Impact Of Body Shaming On Mental Health

‘Weight Shame, Social Connection, and Depressive Symptoms in Late Adolescence,’ a research paper published on PubMed, claims weight and body type can have long-term psychological and physical health consequences. Body shaming can lead to various mental health issues, including low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.

It often causes individuals to avoid social situations and isolate themselves, resulting in feelings of loneliness and worthlessness. When a person is body shamed, they may try to avoid social situations and isolate themselves because of the embarrassment. This can lead to lower self-esteem and a poor self-image. It can also make a person feel lonely and sorry for themselves, which might result in depression.
