To make matters worse, Munawar was facing financial hardships at the time. The prescribed treatment required three injections, each costing Rs 25,000, totalling Rs 75,000 — a sum far beyond what Munawar had in his wallet. In his words, “I needed Rs 75,000 but had only Rs 700-800 in my wallet.” The fear and helplessness he felt during this period are emotions that resonate deeply with any parent confronted by an unexpected health crisis.

What Is Kawasaki Disease?

Kawasaki Disease is a rare inflammatory condition that primarily affects children under the age of five, although older children can also be susceptible. First identified by Japanese paediatrician Tomisaku Kawasaki, the disease inflames blood vessels throughout the body, which can lead to serious heart complications if not treated promptly.

The exact cause remains unknown, but it is believed to be linked to certain viral infections. Early diagnosis is critical for effective treatment and to avoid long-term damage. The condition can progress quickly, affecting the coronary arteries and potentially leading to lifelong heart issues.
