Ayurveda is an age-old alternative medicinal system that originated in the Indian subcontinent. Triphala
Amla, Haritaki, and Bibhitaki are three fruits that are combined to create the effective Ayurvedic formula known as Triphala, says Dr Verma, adding that this herbal preparation is said to have moderate laxative effects, which helps regulate bowel motions without creating dependence. By cleaning the gastrointestinal tract, it also promotes digestive health.
Psyllium Husk (Isabgol)
According to the doctor, psyllium husk, which is high in soluble fibre, helps to soften faeces so they are easier to pass. It functions as a successful treatment for constipation since it aids in gut cleansing and bowel movement regulation.
Ginger And Lemon Tea
Ginger and lemon tea is known for its immunity-boosting effects and for aiding weight loss. However, it is also a good drink for promoting digestion. Warm ginger, and lemon tea is a powerful cure for difficult bowel movements. While lemon promotes digestive regularity, ginger relieves bloating and cramps.
Castor Oil
For alleviating constipation issues, castor oil is a traditional ayurvedic prescribed treatment, says Dr Verma. It improves bowel movements when ingested in moderation and lubricates the bowels. However, it will be best to consume the quantity as advised by the physician on the individual’s requirement.
Sesame Oil Massage (Abhyanga)
The Ayurvedic practice of abhyanga, or oil massage, is also said to have potential health benefits. Dr Verma recommends massaging warm sesame oil to the abdomen in a circular direction, which can help encourage bowel motions. Additionally, this massaging practice relaxes abdomen muscles, easing any discomfort brought on by constipation.
