Diabetes is a widespread health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. In India, an estimated 77 million people above 18 years of age are suffering from Type-2 diabetes and nearly 25 million are at a higher risk of developing diabetes in the near future, as per data from the World Health Organisation.
The key aspect of managing diabetes is keeping blood sugar levels in check. Talking to the team of OnlyMyHealth, Dr Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, PHC, Darbhanga, Bihar, shared how Ayurveda can be an excellent addition to your arsenal. "One approach is through the consumption of Ayurvedic drinks that can assist in stabilising blood sugar levels," he shared.

Lastly, Dr Chaudhary advised drinking ginger tea with lemon juice squeezed in it. He informed that not only does it reduce the risk of kidney damage but also supports immunity and insulin sensitivity.

"Bitter gourd or Karela can regulate blood sugar as it contains a compound called Charantin, which can lower blood sugar levels," said Dr Chaudhary. He suggested that although fresh bitter gourd juice is an acquired taste, it is a potent natural remedy for diabetes.
Cinnamon Tea
Dr Chaudhary shared that you can make cinnamon tea by boiling a cinnamon stick or adding ground cinnamon to hot water. "Consuming this soothing beverage regularly can help improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar levels," he added.
Amla Juice
Another ayurvedic drink that Dr Chaudhary recommended is fresh amla juice. "Amla is a vitamin C powerhouse and contains antioxidants that can help combat diabetes-related complications. Drinking fresh amla juice also improves insulin sensitivity and reduces blood sugar levels over time."
