Water is not just necessary for survival, it's a vital component of maintaining overall health. According to Ayurveda, how and when you drink water can significantly impact your well-being. Sit Down When Drinking Water
Dr Chaudhary shared, "Avoid the habit of chugging water while standing, as it disrupts the balance of the bodily elements. Sitting down and sipping water helps to improve digestion and ensures that your body absorbs the water effectively."
He added that drinking water while standing can cause excess fluid to collect in the joints and cause Arthritis.

No Gulping of Water
The practice of gulping down water in large quantities is discouraged in Ayurveda. "Instead, take small sips and allow your body to absorb the water gradually. This method prevents overloading the stomach and supports optimal hydration," advised Dr Chaudhary.
Taking small sips helps to prevent bloating and digestive issues, he stated.
Avoid Chilled Water
In Ayurveda, ice-cold water is considered detrimental to the digestive fire or Agni. As per Dr Chaudhary, it can weaken Agni and slow down the digestive process.
"To maintain a robust digestive system, opt for water at room temperature or slightly warm. Herbal teas or infused water can also be excellent choices," he suggested.
Drink Water When You Wake Up
"One of the best habits you can adopt for your health is to start your day with a glass of room-temperature water," said Dr Chaudhary. He continued that this practice is called 'Ushapan,' and it helps to flush out toxins, kick start metabolism, and prepare your body for the day ahead.
Drinking warm water first thing in the morning can be even more beneficial as it will help in clearing out the intestines and keep your body well hydrated.

Identify Your Bodily Signals
"Thirst is a natural signal indicating that it's time to drink water. Other signs of dehydration include dry mouth, sunken eyes, chapped lips, dark colour of urine, and difficulty peeing," shared Dr Chaudhary.
He said that recognising these signals can help you stay well-hydrated and healthy.
Water Storage in Copper or Silver Vessels
"Copper has antimicrobial properties and can help purify the water. Silver, on the other hand, is believed to have cooling properties," said Dr Chaudhary. He advised that when water is stored in these metals, it absorbs some of their beneficial qualities and can aid your health.
