Her uncle was the classical legend Pandit Jasraj, and her brothers, Jatin and Lalit Pandit, went on to become the famous music composer duo Jatin-Lalit. She later transitioned into acting, debuting in Uljhan (1975) opposite Sanjeev Kumar.
