How to Connect with the Baby in the Womb

Some parents feel connected to their baby as soon as it is conceived and for a few this feeling grows as baby grows old. Connecting with baby in the womb strengthens the bond you will share in the future, making you feel closer even before he/she is born.You can do so by developing baby’s sense of smell, touch and taste.

Connecting with Baby in the Womb



Touch your belly: After six months of pregnancy, the baby will be aware of what is going on in the outside world. If you’re lucky, your baby may reply you back to you with movement when you touch your belly. Similarly, your husband can also gently touch the belly to get a response.

Massaging baby: A gentle belly massage is one of the ways for mothers to connect with baby in the womb. Besides, fathers too can get communicate with their baby before birth by massaging their partner’s belly with cream or oils.

Play music and sing to baby:
Listening to music and singing songs can stimulate baby in the womb, suggests a research conducted at the Paris Descartes University. 50 pregnant women were examined in their later stages of pregnancy. They listened to descending melody of a piano twice a day. After the baby was born and turned one-month-old, it was found that their heart beat when sleeping slowed by 12 beats per minute while they were listening to familiar sound.

Read to your baby: It is not silly when you talk to your baby who is in the womb, with baby having no idea of what you want him/her to know. A study at the University of South Carolina found that those babies who heard stories of mothers during pregnancy recognised their mothers’ easily post birth.

Learning baby’s movements: You can connect with the baby in the womb by learning how he/she reacts when you listen to loud music. Knowing how your baby responds to situations will make you feel a connection with him/her.

Meditation: Meditation in a quiet place can help you figure out baby’s response and will help you strengthen your bond with your unborn baby.

Connecting with your baby in the womb is important , but you must do that with a sense of responsibility and not do anything that may harm your unborn baby.
