Life is full of good and bad moments. Often, we all feel that we have been at our lowest for a very long time. Stress can make things worse. A prolonged spree of stressful moments  can lead to disturbed sleep patterns, changes in eating habits, and excessive mood swings. 

According to a study published by Boston University School of Medicine in the US, performing yoga regularly helps in significantly reducing these symptoms.

It is claimed that yoga can cure innumerable health problems. Yoga is known to improve physical health, but it can also work wonders for one's mental health and well-being as well. It is a natural and simple way of helping your body and mind relax. Here are a few yoga poses that can help you combat stress.

1. Butterfly/Bound Angle Posture

Also known as the cobbler pose, this asana helps in strengthening the thighs, knees, hips and the back. It is a great pose that can aid in relaxation.

To perform this yoga asana, sit with your back upright, and your knees bent, holding your feet tightly together. Deeply inhale and flap your bent legs up and down like a butterfly. Repeat this eight to ten times.

2. Happy Baby Pose

The happy baby pose or ananda balasana helps in relieving fatigue thereby relaxing the mind. As the name of the pose suggests, the individual practicing the asana feels really happy almost like a baby in that moment.

For this asana, lie down straight on your back, bring your knees closer to the stomach. Breathe in while holding your feet with your hands. If you face any difficulty holding your feet, then hold on to your ankles in the beginning and progress gradually towards the heel. Breathe gently and rock from one side to the other as and when you feel comfortable with the pose.

3. Supported Bound Angle Posture

Supta Baddha Konasana means a reclining pose. This pose is often referred to as the reclined cobbler pose. This asana helps one in becoming calm by instilling a sense of relaxation.

To perform this pose, lie down straight on the ground with your knees bent on either side of the body. Join the feet by bringing the heels closer to your groin. Place the palms next to your hips, facing downwards. Exhale and inhale slowly.

4. Bridge Pose

Setu Bandhasana or the bridge pose is a great asana that helps in reducing stress and anxiety. In this pose your body takes the shape of a bridge and hence the name. This yogic pose also helps in maintaining a normal blood pressure in a person.

For this pose, lie down flat on the ground, facing upwards with your hands on either side of the body. Slowly lift your hips upwards while inhaling. Bring your body back down while you exhale and repeat for eight to ten times.
