Wheezing is a high-pitched, rhythmic sound that is typically heard when you exhale. This is caused by the constriction of your airways. Heart wheezing is a symptom of a heart condition, and the cause of this symptom can vary depending on the underlying condition.

Here is the list of condition that can cause heart wheezing:

Asthma is a disorder in which the channel of the lungs narrows, making breathing difficult. According to Dr. M.K Patel, general physician at Indu Hospital in Lucknow, asthma might worsen and produce continuous coughing and whistling while breathing.

Pulmonary Hypertension

As per a report published by the National Centre of Biotechnology Information, pulmonary hypertension can cause heart wheezing.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a serious condition in which the blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries is elevated. This increased pressure forces the heart to work harder to pump blood through the lungs and can lead to heart failure. PH is often caused by an underlying condition such as heart disease, lung disease, or chronic thromboembolism (blood clots in the lungs). It can also be caused by lifestyle factors such as smoking and obesity.

Congestive Heart Failure

According to PubMed, cardiac asthma is defined as congestive heart failure-related wheezing, coughing, and orthopnea. Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. It is a progressive and serious condition that can lead to life-threatening complications if not treated. CHF can affect people of all ages, but it is most common in those over the age of 65.

The main cause of CHF is coronary artery disease, a narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. Other causes include high blood pressure, diabetes, valve diseases, or an enlarged heart. Symptoms may include heart wheezing, fatigue, swelling in the legs, ankles, and abdomen, and a decrease in urination.

Cardiomyopathy is a type of heart disease in which the heart muscle becomes weak and cannot pump blood as effectively. This can lead to a range of symptoms, including heart wheezing, fatigue, chest pain, and even sudden death. The exact cause of cardiomyopathy is not always known. It can be caused by a genetic mutation, a viral infection, or long-term alcohol or drug abuse. It can also be caused by certain medications or the ageing process. In some cases, the cause is unknown.

Apart from above conditions, valvular heart disease is a condition in which one or more of the valves of the heart don’t open or close properly. In addition, some people may experience heart wheezing due to infections, allergies, or airway obstruction.

It is important to see a doctor if you experience heart wheezing, as it can be a sign of an underlying condition that needs to be treated. The doctor will do a physical exam and may order tests such as an echocardiogram or chest X-ray to diagnose the cause of the wheezing. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the wheezing and may include medications, lifestyle changes, or even surgery.
