This year, aesthetic surgery is focused on helping people feel confident and comfortable in their own skin, with procedures that enhance natural beauty in subtle and personalised ways. From smoothing out wrinkles to sculpting the body or refining facial features, the goal is to celebrate individuality and highlight the best version of yourself. We reached out to Dr Rajat Gupta, Plastic Surgeon and National Secretary, Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (IAAPS), who offered insights into the most sought-after surgical procedures of 2024.
Most Requested Cosmetic Surgical Procedures In 2024
Compared to 2019, cosmetic surgery procedures increased by 19% in 2022 (latest available data). Procedures targeting the body, such as liposuction, tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), and arm and lower body lifts, saw the most growth, contributing to a 25% rise and a total of 5,76,485 procedures performed that year, as stated in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
Botox and Fillers
Non-surgical solutions like Botox and fillers remain perennial favourites for their ability to deliver subtle yet impactful results. Botox smooths out wrinkles and fine lines, offering a refreshed, youthful appearance with minimal downtime.
“Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are widely used for facial contouring, enhancing areas, such as the lips, cheeks, and jawline. Patients today prioritise natural-looking enhancements that highlight their features,” explained Dr Gupta. With advancements in injectable technology, these treatments now offer longer-lasting results and greater customisation, making them ideal for both first-timers and those seeking maintenance treatments.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, continues to be a top-requested procedure for those looking to refine their facial proportions. “A well-performed rhinoplasty enhances the overall harmony of the face without appearing unnatural. With advancements in surgical techniques, patients can now expect shorter recovery times and more precise results tailored to their unique features,” added Dr Gupta. The latest available data shows that approximately 352,555 people underwent rhinoplasty in 2020, a slight decrease from the previous year. Despite this dip, rhinoplasty remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed annually and is the top cosmetic procedure for men.
Breast Surgeries
Breast surgeries, including augmentation, reduction, and lifts, have seen a steady rise in demand. Dr Gupta highlighted the evolving goals of patients: “Women today seek procedures that align with their lifestyles and body types, prioritising both aesthetics and functionality. Breast augmentations using natural fat transfer have also gained popularity, offering a subtle and natural enhancement.”
Mommy Makeovers
Mommy makeovers have become a transformative option for women wanting to restore their pre-pregnancy shape. “This customised combination of procedures normally including breast surgery, tummy tucks, and liposuction addresses the physical changes brought on by pregnancy and childbirth,” shared Dr Gupta. Mommy makeovers empower women to feel confident and comfortable in their skin again.
Tummy Tucks
Tummy tucks, or abdominoplasties, remain a go-to procedure for individuals seeking to remove excess skin and tighten abdominal muscles. “It’s not just about achieving a flat stomach; it’s about restoring core strength and redefining the waistline. The procedure is particularly popular among those who have experienced significant weight loss or postpartum changes,” said Dr Gupta.
6-Pack Abs Etching: Precision Contouring
For fitness enthusiasts aiming for an athletic physique, 6-pack abs etching is gaining momentum. This advanced form of liposuction sculpts the abdominal area by removing fat around the natural muscle lines, creating a defined and toned appearance, explained Dr Gupta. The procedure is ideal for patients who are already fit but want to enhance their muscle definition.
The Role of Innovative Technologies
Technological advancements from the latest equipment, 3D imaging to AI assistance have revolutionised aesthetic surgery. From high-definition liposuction to minimally invasive procedures, these innovations ensure more precise results and faster recoveries. Patients today are not just looking for transformations but for safe, efficient, and natural outcomes.
Aesthetic Surgery: Enhancing Confidence
Dr Gupta concluded, “The rising demand for aesthetic procedures is fuelled by a desire for self-confidence and well-being. Aesthetic surgery is no longer about dramatic changes but about celebrating individuality and enhancing one’s natural beauty.”
“For those considering aesthetic enhancements, consulting a board-certified surgeon ensures safety, precision, and personalised results. With the right expertise, achieving beauty goals can be a transformative and empowering journey," he added.
