The current scenario of corporate life has made not sleeping enough the new cool. An average adult is supposed to sleep a minimum of 7 hours to rejuvenate for the hectic life that they live. However, it is noted that people between the age of 18 to 29 only sleep about 4 to 5 hours a day. We have been told that we must sleep adequately since our bodies need that number of hours to heal, rejuvenate and relax. With our fast pacing lives, the number of hours we sleep has relatively decreased. In turn, our bodies are lacked in that respect. Therefore, we tend to be drowsy when we are not supposed to.

Sleepiness in the office is one of the main concerns of many adults. The main reason of the same is the fact that adults tend to spend most of their time in offices. It is also humanly to feel sleepy when the brain in functioning with full power. When a person does not get enough sleep at night and he starts working in the office, he or she becomes more tired than already which demerits to sleeping in the office.

Tips To Manage Daytime Sleepiness In Office

If you can relate to the aforementioned, it is likely that either you feel sleepy in office or you have had slept in office when you are supposed to be working. Here are a few tips and tricks that may come in handy for you and your sleepiness in office.

1. Caffeine

A shot of caffeine is your best friend if you are feeling sluggish at office. Coffee will help in boosting the energy levels in your body which in turn will get the work done at a faster pace. Caffeine is a stimulant, which means that it will increase the activity in brain and the nervous system of the body. Coffee may also help in improving the thought process and mental performance of a person which will help in fighting off sleepiness. It is important to understand that you do not go overboard with the intake since it can overstimulate and make you  feel jittery.

2. Power Nap

If you just cannot sit still while working and are constantly dozing off, chances are that you are severely sleep deprived and/or tired. The best way to fight the urge is to do what the body is trying to seek. Power nap is a very short sleep during the day that is intended to give you more or lacked energy. An ideal power nap is of about 10 to 20 minutes. Simply shut your eyes for some time and relax your mind and body. Don't forget to set an alarm so that you don't over sleep.

3. Work In A Bright Area 

One of the major reasons why a person feels sleepy in the office is due to the lack of proper lighting around his or her work station. Therefore, in order to overcome feeling drowsy while you are working is to sit near the area with proper light. If your work station does not have enough light you may sit near the sunlight or a window. Working in low light is a major reason why someone would feel sleepy during work hours. 

4. Splash Cold Water Or Turn On A Fan

Water helps greatly to bid sleepiness a goodbye. If you are feeling very sleepy during your work hours, splash some cold water on your face, let it sit on for some time and then pat it dry. You are then suggested to go and sit under a fan so that a cool temperature in maintained inside your body and around your vicinity. Just like the wind, the cool air of the fan will increase the alertness.
