Invitro fertilisation is one of the most common and effective reproductive procedures out there that is helping thousands of couples to conceive. It assists patients in a number of fertility issues. Though the procedure has a good success rate, it still doesn't guarantee success in the first attempt. Sometimes, couples have to go through it more than once. Going for a second attempt of IVF after the first try is unsuccessful can raise a lot of questions in the minds of the patient and most common of them is about the time gap or wait period that they should be taking between the procedures. Here is what Dr. Kalyani Shrimali, Fertility Consultant at Nova IVF Fertility, Indore, suggests.

The required time period between the IVF attempts

The time spacing between IVF attempts depends upon a number of factors like a patient's age, reproductive health, and physical health are important to consider. This also helps in determining if they should go for the second attempt or not. The procedure of the second cycle occurs in two ways. In some cases, the cycle starts from the beginning where the patient has to go through all the procedures from ovarian stimulation to egg retrieval, while in other cases there can be frozen eggs to use.

Depending upon the number of factors, doctors advise patients about the ideal time gap between the IVF cycles, but there are also some general guidelines that are to be followed.
