Ageing is a natural part of life, but how the body ages can be influenced by lifestyle choices, especially physical activity. As people grow older, maintaining strength, mobility, and balance becomes increasingly important for overall health. Among different forms of exercise, strength training comes in as one of the most crucial tools in promoting graceful ageing.
Strength exercises help maintain muscle mass, support bone health, and improve functional movement needed for daily activities. Without structured strength training, the body starts to reduce muscle mass and strength, which is typically referred to as sarcopenia.

In an exclusive interaction with the editorial team of Onlymyhealth, Varnit Yadav, Nutrition, Exercise, and Fitness Expert and Trainer, from Lucknow, explained that resistance training is one of the most effective ways of promoting healthy ageing. He explained, “As we grow old, our muscle mass and bone density gradually decline. Strength exercise can help by increasing muscle strength, improving balance and making joints strong.”
Here are some essential expert-approved strength exercises, which can help in healthy active ageing.

Push-ups are an effective, powerful exercise that work the chest, shoulders, arms and core. Planks are also an excellent workout to firm abs, lower back and small muscles around the spine,” Varnit added. It has a very powerful way to enhance balance and coordination, and eliminate the risk of falling or getting injured.
